The #MeToo movement has taken India by a storm. Every hour, a new familiar face is being exposed. Amongst so many screenshots, evidences, allegations against the predators and their long due apologies across the social media, an ugly face of the society is revealed. People once named as the flag-bearers of feminism are now facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct, proving the deep-rooted misogyny in the society.

With so much of confusion spreading across the internet, here’s the total account of the movement, how it began and who all have been named under it.

How did it all start?

It all began after Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of harassing her on the sets of a film back in 2008. Her interview gave courage to many others to speak out. Following this, writer Mahima kukreja called out AIB ally Utsav Chakraborty for his unacceptable behavior. Ever since, women’s across all walks have been calling out, naming big, powerful names in the industry. Women on social media are standing by each other in solidarity. With activitists, lawyers, therapists offering help to women in distress, the movement is shaking the unpopular power.

The aftermath

While there are still some people ridiculing the movement, it is notable that very serious actions are taken against the accused. Whether, Bollywood or the media universe, powerful men are stepping down from their position.
